Biofeedback
At Couples and Family Therapy Center we are interested in offering a variety of approaches to help you.  We believe that often talk therapy alone is not enough to shift some of the most frustrating symptoms of stress, anxiety, anger, depression, and so on.

Biofeedback is another option we are happy to offer you that can help you experience positive results right in session as you begin to retrain your mind and body.

Sometimes our emotions or stress can feel bigger and more powerful than us.  We can start to feel like we are not in control of what we say or do.

Biofeedback can help you reclaim your life and feel calm and in control again.  When we trust that we can calm our own mind and bodies, we can feel more secure and confident and become more successful in our lives.

What is Biofeedback?

Biofeedback is basically the idea of getting information (feedback) from measuring your physiological conditions such as heart rate, skin temperature, and breathing rate, in order to determine needed treatment.  This is just like the medical tests you have at the doctor where they have machines to measure your heart rate, take X-rays, perform MRIs etc.

In the therapy process, measuring your heart rate, breathing rate and more allows you to:
  • Become aware of your physical state and the impact stress is having on your body.
  • Practice using your mind to impact and calm your body by giving you immediate results and feedback in session.
  • Recondition your mind to be able to calm your body, and condition your body to be able to establish a new baseline of relaxation.
  • Increase your tolerance and flexibility with the stress of life.

What is the Process for Biofeedback?

Biofeedback is a simple and painless process.  In the therapy session you will have a sensor connected to either your finger tip or to your earlobe.  You will then simply sit infront of a computer to observe the information displayed on the screen.  As you are training your mind and your body, you will see changes and successes immediately on the screen so you can see the evidence of your improvement.  The therapist will tailor the options and settings to fit your needs.

Can I get Biofeedback and Regular Counseling?

Yes!  Biofeedback is simply one part of the treatment plan for clients, not the only part.  The therapist will work with you also through traditional counseling to process your emotions and your situation, as well as helping address the other areas in your life including your relationships.
